How do I determine which age group my daughter is in?

Your daughter’s age on January 1st determines which division she will play in.

When can I register my daughter(s)? Where can I register my daughter(s)?

Early registration is usually in November. You may do so by obtaining a registration form either online, by mail, or at the in-person locations listed on this website. There are usually two other opportunities in early January to register at tryouts.  See the website registration information for details.

Is a tryout required?

There is a "skills assessment" (Tryouts) day where all of the girls in the 10U, 12U, and 14U Divisions are evaluated. The date is usually sometime in January. The purpose of the "skills assessment" is to insure that evenly balanced teams are formed in the upper divisions. There are no tryouts for the T-Ball and 8U Divisions.  There is a tryout  for pitching only in the 8U division. See more information in the "How are teams formed?" question below.

No.  There are many girls who participate in TOGSA that live in other cities around Ventura County.

Early registration ends in November. The latest you can register for the season is around mid January.

How are teams formed?

In the upper-divisions (10U, 12U, and 14U), players are selected through a draft to insure evenly skilled teams.  Players are rated based upon their performance at the "skills assessment" (Tryouts).  We make every attempt to insure that each team has a mixture of skill levels on each team.

In the lower divisions (T-Ball and 8U), teams are formed typically by placing girls from the same schools together.  You can request for your daughter to play with a friend, but there are no guarantees.

My daughter has never played before.  Is that a problem?
No. We have girls with many levels of experience.  TOGSA emphasizes fundamentals and safety so that all girls can improve their skills and have fun!

My child must play for a specific coach or friend for carpool reasons. Will that be a problem?
In an effort to maintain balanced teams, we can not guarantee that a child will play on a specific team.  In the lower divisions (T-Ball and 8U), parents are advised to make their desires and preferences known by writing them on the registration form at the time of registration. Divisional Directors will usually make an effort to accommodate requests in the lower divisions, however we can not guarantee a specific team placement.

My child has very little experience and/or is smaller than kids her age. Can she be placed in a lower division?

As a rule, "playing down" is usually not allowed. Most smaller and less experienced kids catch on very quickly during the season. Most parents, in retrospect, would agree that the need to have their kids play down might not have been as urgent as they originally thought. Additionally, a player electing to play down would not be eligible for All Stars in the lower division.  However, you can still request that your daughter “plays down,” and the TOGSA Board will take a vote.  Usually, safety reasons are the deciding factor.

My child has a lot of experience and is a very skilled player. Do you field an advanced team or an all-star team?

We do not field a separate team consisting solely of advanced players; however, more advanced players are allowed to "play up" in the next older division, if they meet the criteria for “playing up.”   We do have a very active All Star schedule that begins immediately following the regular season and can last throughout the summer.

Are there any other fees or mandatory fundraisers that I'm required to pay for?

TOGSA is a non-profit organization operated by volunteers and funded exclusively by registration fees. As such, we will have a mandatory fundraiser that each player is required to participate in. Typically, this involves selling some type of raffle tickets.

Does TOGSA need help?
As a volunteer organization we are always looking for help in many areas...coaching, fund raising, publicity, Snack Shack, etc.  Becoming a member of our Auxiliary Board would be a good way to learn more about TOGSA.
